Mike
Morris was born and raised in the south in the small town
of Monroe, LA. Bro. Mike was raised in a single-parent home as
an
only child. One of the things he is most grateful for is the fact that
his mother, Glenda Morris, raised him to understand the importance of
going to church, and at the tender age of 5, Bro. Mike became what is
known as a "bus kid." Every Sunday he
would get on the bus and go off to Sunday school at Maranatha
Baptist Church where John Dallalio was pastor. At the
age of 7, Bro. Mike trusted Christ as his Savior, and was baptized
shortly thereafter.
From then on, he continued attending church with his mother. As soon as he became a teenager, he went on his first trip to youth camp at Rocky Ridge Youth Ranch under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Flowers. The next year Bro. Mike attended youth camp again, and it was then that God began to deal with his heart about surrendering to the call of preaching the Gospel of Christ. After prayer, and counsel from his pastor, on July 29, 1993, Bro. Mike surrendered to preach.
Shortly after God began working on Bro. Mike's heart to preach, Satan and/or his demons began working on his heart to run from God's call to preach. Approximately 1-2 years later, Bro. Mike began to go into a downward spiral, moving further and further away from the Lord's will for his life. It wasn't long before he was completely out of church, and completely out of God's will. He spent a few years running from God, searching for pleasure in worldly possessions, but found none.
It wasn't very long before God began to deal with Bro. Mike's heart, and remind him about what he had given his life to do just years before...PREACH! So, he decided he was tired of running from God, and rededicated his life anew to serve God wholeheartedly. In September 2005, he enrolled in Champion Baptist College under the leadership of Dr. Eric Capaci, pastor of Gospel Light Baptist Church in Hot Springs, AR. It was during his studies there that God began to deal with Bro. Mike about another area of service - starting a church! In 2008, he graduated from Champion Baptist College with a BS in Pastoral Theology. The day after graduation, he moved to Cape Girardeau, MO to begin preparations to start the Heritage Baptist Church.
Bro. Mike is married to his wonderful wife, Angela Gray-Morris. He met his soon-to-be wife, who was at the time living in Patterson, MO, while he was attending college in Arkansas. They were married on June 7, 2008. Since then, God has blessed them with 2 wonderful children - Alaina (9-22-09) and Shane (2-15-11). They continue to serve God at Heritage Baptist Church, seeking to win the lost to Jesus Christ.
